Lactulose
Ezilax syrup contains lactulose, which is a laxative that is used to help relieve constipation and facilitate excretion.
Ezilax syrup is an osmotic laxative, which increases the amount of water in the stool and thus softens it.
Intestinal bacteria break down lactulose, which leads to an increase in the acidity of the intestine and thus prevents ammonia from reaching the blood. Therefore, it is also used in some cases of hepatic encephalopathy.

Indications:
Ezilax syrup is used in the following cases:
Treating or preventing constipation.
Preventing hepatic encephalopathy.
Empty the bowels and help before a colonoscopy.
How to use:
The dose of Ezilax Syrup may be taken as a single daily dose or may be divided into two daily doses or as the doctor prescribed.
• Adults and adolescents: Recommended starting dose is 15 – 45 ml, followed by a maintenance dose of 15 – 30 ml.
• Children (7 – 14 years old): Recommended starting dose is 15 ml, followed by a maintenance dose of 10 – 15 ml.
• Children (1 – 6 years old): Recommended starting and maintenance dose is 5 – 10 ml.
Side effects:
Ezilax syrup may cause:
• Flatulence (usually resolves after a few days).
• Abdominal pain.
• Diarrhea.
Warnings and cautions:
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist when taking Ezilax syrup if you have:
• Hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of the excipients of the medication.
• Galactosemia ( unable to use galactose ).
• Chronic use of unadjusted doses of Ezilax syrup and misuse can lead to diarrhea and disturbance of the electrolyte balance.
