Aspirin Protect EC 100 mg 90 Tablets
Acetyl Salicylic Acid.
Inhibits the enzymes cyclo-oxygenase-1 and cyclo-oxygenase-2 by irreversible
acetylation of the enzyme.
It has antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect.
It also inhibits platelet aggregation thus it also has anti-platelet effect.
Indications:
• Heart attack or stroke.
• High risk of heart attack or stroke.
Points of interest:
• Advice the patient to keep the capsule/tablet protected in the packaging until it is time to take it.
• For dispersible Tablets, advice the patient to mix in half a glass of water immediately before use.
How to use:
As per as direction of doctor.
Active Ingredients:
Acetyl Salicylic Acid.
Side effects:
• Dyspepsia.
• GI ulceration or bleeding.
• Dizziness.
• Tinnitus (common with high doses).
Cautions:
• Increased risk of hemorrhage particularly post operation, including tooth extraction.
• Can adversely affect patients with hemophilia, liver disease, vitamin K deficiency, thrombocytopenia, and hypertension.
• Patients with a history of gastric or duodenal ulcer. Any unusual bleeding should be reported and treatment may be withdrawn.
• Hypoglycemic effects with sulfonylureas and insulins may be potentiated.
• In low doses, it reduces uric acid excretion, patients may experience gout attacks.
• Contraindicated in patients < 16 years old.
• Contraindicated in patients with active peptic ulcer.
• Contraindicated in patients with asthma.
• Contraindicated in patients with hemophilia or bleeding disorders.
• Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin
• Contraindicated in patients with gout.
• Contraindicated in patients with severe hepatic, renal impairment.
Interactions:
• NSAID: when used together, NSAIDs reduce the antiplatelet effect of aspirin.
• Anticoagulants: concomitant use with aspirin is associated with increased risk of bleeding [warfarin and phenindione]. Heparin effect is enhanced when given with aspirin.
• Methotrexate: aspirin reduces the excretion of methotrexate.
• Diuretics: the risk of toxicity is increased when a high dose aspirin is given with Acetazolamide or loop diuretics.
• Antidepressants [SSRI or Venlafaxine]: increases aspirin plasma concentration leading to increased risk of bleeding.
