Empagliflozin/Metformin hydrochloride•Synjardy 12.5 mg/1000 mg contains two active substances empagliflozin and metformin.
• Each belongs to a group of medicines called “oral anti-diabetics”.
• Empagliflozin belongs to a group of medicines called sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors.
• It works by blocking the SGLT2 protein in your kidneys which causes blood sugar (glucose) to be removed in the urine.
• Metformin works mainly by blocking glucose production in the liver.
• Synjardy tablets are used to treat type 2 diabetes.
Active ingredients:
Empagliflozin , Metformin hydrochloride .
Synjardy 12.5 mg/1000 mg uses:
• Synjardy is added to diet and exercise to treat type 2 diabetes in adult patients (aged 18 years and older)
whose diabetes cannot be controlled by adding metformin alone or metformin with other medicines for diabetes.
• Synjardy can also be combined with other medicines for the treatment of diabetes.
These may be medicines taken by mouth or given by injection such as insulin.
How To Use synjardy 12.5 mg/1000 mg uses:
• The recommended dose is one tablet twice a day.
• The dose of Synjardy varies depending on your condition and the doses of diabetes medicines you currently take.
Your doctor will adjust your dose as necessary and tell you exactly which strength of Synjardy to take.
Side Effects:
• Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
• Urinary tract infection.
• Dehydration.
• Feeling sick (nausea), and vomiting.
• Diarrhea or stomach ache.
• Loss of appetite.
Contraindications:
Do not take Synjardy
• If you are allergic to empagliflozin, metformin, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
• If you have uncontrolled diabetes.
• If you have severely reduced kidney function.
• If you have a severe infection such as an infection affecting your lung or bronchial system or your kidney.
• If you have lost a lot of water from your body (dehydration).
• If you are treated for acute heart failure or have recently had a heart attack.
• If you have problems with your liver.
• Do not take Synjardy if you are breastfeeding.
• Do not take Synjardy if you are pregnant.
Cautions:
• Risk of lactic acidosis.
• Stop taking Synjardy for a short time if you have a condition that may be associated with dehydration.
• During treatment with Synjardy, your doctor will check your kidney function at least once a year or more frequently if you are elderly and/or if you have worsening kidney function.
• Like for all diabetic patients it is important to check your feet regularly and adhere to any other advice regarding foot care given by your health care professional.
Drugs Interactions:
• Medicines that increase urine production (diuretics).
• Other medicines that lower the amount of sugar in your blood such as insulin or a “sulphonyl urea” medicine.
• Medicines that may change the amount of metformin in your blood, especially if you have reduced kidney function.
• Bronchodilators (beta-2 agonists) are used to treat asthma.
• Corticosteroids.
• Medicines used to treat pain and inflammation (NSAID and COX-2-inhibitors, such as ibuprofen and celecoxib).
• Certain medicines for the treatment of high blood pressure (ACE inhibitors and angiotensin II receptor antagonists).
• Medicines that contain alcohol.
