Bergo Tabs contains Cabergoline which is considered its active ingredient and belongs to the Prolactin inhibitor medicine group.

Prolactin is the hormone that initiates milk production from the breasts. Cabergoline's mechanism of action is to decrease Prolactin release in the blood.

Bergo can be used directly after giving birth to interrupt/prevent lactation (production of milk by the breasts) when you would like to stop breastfeeding your baby.

It can also be used when breastfeeding is not recommended for the health of the baby or the mother or in cases of miscarriage.

Uses:
• Treat cases where ovulation has ceased in the patient (anovulation).
• Help with cases where there is an overproduction of milk even when breastfeeding has stopped (galactorrhea).
• Bergo tablets are also used in cases where there are high levels of Prolactin present due to a disease in the pituitary gland.
• Bergo tablets decrease levels of Prolactin in the blood.
• Treat cases where the patient has stopped menstruating (amenorrhea).
• Aid in cases where the patient has changes in the menstrual cycle (oligomenorrhoea).

Direction for use:
• Use the medicine only if prescribed by a doctor.
• To prevent lactation: Take 2 tablets of Bergo 0.5mg on the first day after giving birth and stop taking the medication.
• To stop milk production after finishing breastfeeding: Take half a tablet every 12 hours for 2 days.
• To reduce levels of Prolactin due to other conditions: Take half a tablet twice a week for as long as your doctor prescribes.
Your doctor may see fit to gradually increase your dose during treatment.

Side effects:
• Migraines and headaches.
• Feeling of dizziness.
• Nausea.
• Pain and discomfort in the stomach and abdomen.
• Weakness and fatigue.

Drug interactions:
• Medicine used for the treatment of mental illness: Thioxanthenes, Butyrophenones, and Phenothiazines.
• Medicine used in the treatment of nausea and vomiting: metoclopramide.
• Ergot Alkaloids.
• Macrolide antibiotics (Erythromycin).

Cautions:
• Use an effective form of birth control when taking Bergo 0.5mg to avoid pregnancy.
• Do not take Bergo 0.5mg if the patient intends on breastfeeding.
• To avoid problems with fertility, stop taking Bergo 0.5mg 1 month before you plan on getting pregnant.
• Do not drive or use heavy machinery as Bergo 0.5mg may cause sudden episodes of sleep.
• Consult a doctor if you are lactose intolerant since Bergo 0.5mg contains lactose.
• Do not use it if you are younger the 16 years of age.
